BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University softball team dropped two games to West Virginia Wesleyan at Culpepper Field on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets were shutout, 3-0, in the first game before they were downed, 7-1, in the second game. Despite the negative results on Sunday, West Virginia State still finished ahead of Charleston in the final standings to claim the 2021 MEC South Division title.

- West Virginia Wesleyan's O'Shields (12-4) held West Virginia State to four hits on her way to a complete game shutout.
- Madison Rafuson and Autumn Thompson each collected two hits. They were the only two Yellow Jackets to reach base in the game.
- Thompson allowed no baserunners in her two innings of relief.

Only Rafuson and Thompson were able to get the best of O'Shields and their combined four singles were not enough to plate any runs for WVSU.
The Bobcats scored all three of their runs in the first inning and clung to the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Game 2: WVWC 7, WVSU 1, Final/7
- O'Shields (13-4) registered another complete game in which she gave up only four hits.
- Emma Ruth prevented another shutout when she hit her seventh longball of the season.

O'Shields was as dominant in the second game as she was in the first game. She allowed just four hits again and was barely worse for wear.
Sarah Barrett and
Paige Scruggs both singled while
Tori Lambert doubled with no one on base. Ruth's solo homerun was O'Shields' only mistake.
Shian Meeks managed to draw a walk, the only base on balls given up by O'Shields in both games.
The Bobcats posted five runs in the third inning, 5-0. Ruth's solo shot in the fourth finally made O'Shields look vulnerable, but she recovered quickly and pitched well for the rest of the game. West Virginia Wesleyan picked up two more runs in the fifth inning to give the game its final score, 7-1.
