INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia State University softball team dropped both games to No. 17 Indianapolis in a non-conference doubleheader played at Lady Jackets Field on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets were held scoreless in the earlier game, 7-0, before nearly pulling off a comeback in the later game, 6-5.

Game 1: UIndy 7, WVSU 0, Final/7
- Freshman right fielder Emele Clark was the only Yellow Jacket with multiple hits in the game. She went 2-for-2 and reached base a third time when she was hit by a pitch. She also stole a base.
- Freshman pitcher Autumn Thompson worked three innings in relief and did not allow any runs to be scored on her watch. She sat down two opposing batters.Â
- UIndy's Hallie Waters was lights out in the circle. She tossed a complete game, giving up four hits and striking out six.

West Virginia State kept Indianapolis off the scoreboard until the top of the fourth when an inside the park homerun scored three. Two more runs were tacked on before the inning ended. The Greyhounds picked up two more runs in the top of the fifth. Thompson entered the game to pitch in the fifth and was able to force two groundouts to get out of the jam. She kept the deficit from worsening in the sixth, striking out two and giving up a single. In the seventh,
Danielle Lebsock launched a dart from center field to throw out a baserunner at home plate and keep UIndy from adding to its lead.
Game 2: UIndy 6, WVSU 5, Final/7
- Three Yellow Jackets had multiple hits in the second game. Junior first baseman Emma Ruth and senior left fielder Paige Scruggs each collected three hits, while fifth year catcher Madison Rafuson had two. Scruggs crossed home plate twice while Ruth drove in two runs.Both launched doubles as their only extra base hit.
- Freshman Autumn Thompson pitched four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out three.

After one, the game was tied at one apiece after Clark stole home in the bottom of the first. In the next half inning a RBI-triple was followed up by a 2-RBI homer over the left field fence to put UIndy up by three, 4-1. WVSU rallied in the top of the fifth to level the score at 4-4. Ruth singled up the middle with the bases loaded, scoring one, before
Emily Moore drove in two more runs with a two-out single. The Greyhounds went up by two in the top of the seventh, giving the Yellow Jackets one last opportunity to try to split with nationally-ranked Indianapolis. With two outs, Ruth doubled into the right center gap and brought Scruggs home, 6-5. Moore was then intentionally walked before the final out of the game.
