BRIDGEPORT, W.Va.
-- The University of Charleston has secured the top seed for the first time at the Mountain East Conference Women's Tennis Tournament set for this week (May 1-3) at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center in Huntington, W.Va.

The Golden Eagles will be looking for their second MEC Tournament title and first since the fall of 2016. Charleston (20-4, 7-1) earned a share of its first MEC regular season title this spring and secured the top seed with a regular season win over West Virginia State.

WVSU (16-5, 7-1) shared the regular season title with Charleston and is the No. 2 seed for the tournament. The Yellow Jackets have won four MEC Tournament titles.

UC and WVSU will each have a first-round bye for the tournament.

West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty each finished with 6-2 records in conference play, but WVWC earns the No. 3 seed by virtue of its regular season win over the Hilltoppers. The Bobcats will take on sixth-seeded Fairmont State in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 1, at 2 p.m.

The Hilltoppers, who own a win over top-seeded Charleston, will take on fifth-seeded UVa-Wise in the first match on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The winner of the West Liberty/UVa-Wise match will advance to take on Charleston, while West Virginia State will get the winner of West Virginia Wesleyan and Fairmont State.
