Yellow Jackets to Host NCAA Women's Tennis Regional
   West Virginia State University Women's Tennis finished the regular season ranked #2 in the Atlantic Region and will host the NCAA Tournament.

    The event will be played Saturday, April 28, 2018 and Sunday, April 29, 2018  at Coonskin Park in Charleston. This is the 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and will mark the first time the Yellow Jackets have hosted the event.

     WVSU will face #7 Shaw University out of North Carolina in the tournament's opener at 10 a.m. Saturday.  Shaw University was 21-2 overall and 12-0 in CIAA Competition. They won the Southern Division regular season and won the CIAA Championship over Johnson C. Smith University 5-0. This is the second straight year the Bears have advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

      The final will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday with the winner advancing to the Final 16 in Surprise, Arizona, May 8-11.

      The Mountain East Conference regular season and tournament champion Yellow Jackets enter the postseason with a 14-6 record. All six losses have come against top 40 nationally ranked opponents.

       Top singles players, junior Laura Isbey and sophomore Kierstin Hensley, enter the event with identical 18-2 records while Hensley and senior Nina Dillwald are ranked #43 in doubles nationally.

       The rest of the squad is composed of junior Kayla McKnight and freshmen Hanna Kantsavaya, Nika Tadic, Sydney Miller, and Grazielle Preterotto.

          1:00 p.m.       #3 Mercyhurst (20-2) vs. #6 West Liberty (11-7)

          Sunday, April 29

         1:00 p.m.         Championship match
