Softball Takes Four of Five on Busy Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The WVSU softball team made a stop in Raleigh for the Shaw University Challenge over the weekend and picked up four wins in five games over the three days.

After scoring 14 runs in their first nine games the Yellow Jackets' bats came to life with a vengance beginning with a record-setting 27-0 win over Lincoln (PA.) Friday.

Along the way the Jackets set new program records for runs scored, the old record was 19 two times, runs batted in with 22, tied the mark for triples in a game with three, and stolen bases with 18.

Brittany Allison belted a grand slam while Brookelyn Hale and Shian Meeks each drove in three. Junior Chelsey Parkins tossed a five-inning no-hitter striking out five.

After dropping Friday's second game 4-2 to Shippensburg the Yellow Jackets found their rhythm atthe plate again and blasted Millersville 12-2 and Elizabeth City State 16-0 Saturday.

Allison had a pair of doubles and drove in three more runs in the opener while Kayleigh Thompson knocked in four with two singles and a double.

Micca Mirabella and Madison Rafuson drove in three runs each with Allison and Hale each picking up two more RBI on the weekend. Ally Burgess, Emily Thompson, and Amanda McDonald combined to limit Elizabeth City to three hits.

The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the weekend with a 15-1 win over Bowie State Sunday morning.

Hale collected three more RBI on three hits ncluding a triple, Allison blasted another home run, and Mirabella had three hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Parkins allowed just two hits and struck out five to pick up the win in the circle.

The Yellow Jackets are in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this week for eight games in the Fastpitch Dreams Tournament.
