Jacket Women Pick Up Big Road Win

Box Score The WVSU women's basketball team rebounded from Thursday's last second loss with a 92-82 win at Urbana as the regular season hits the home stretch.

"Today was a big road win," Yellow Jacket Coach Charles Marshall said. "I was proud of the way our ladies came to play after a tough road loss at the buzzer."

With the win WVSU is by itself in fifth place and within striking distance of the top four spots as the season heads into its final three weeks. The Yellow Jackets, who are 7-2 in the Walker Convocation Center this season, host the teams in the next three spots above them over that period. WVSU already has two wins over MEC leading Wheeling Jesuit,

Saturday the Jackets showed that they have plenty of fight left in them by taking control of a tight game with a 10-0 run in the closing minutes.

Senior Shealyn Shafer paced WVSU with 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Amiea Summers added 18 points and five steals, Sydney Bates 15 points and six rebounds, and Shea Hines 10 points along with six rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets return home for a Thursday night match-up with second place Glenville State at 5:30 p.m..
