Box Score There's no place like home.
Especially for the WVSU women's basketball team.
Saturday afternoon the Yellow Jackets broke open a close game with a 12-2 run midway through the second quarter on the way to a 107-95 win over visiting Concord.
It was the sixth straight home court victory for the squad.
The last home loss came back on November 16 when WVSU fell to #10 California-Pa.
After hitting just 35 percent from the floor on the road Thursday the Yellow Jackets sank 50 percent of their shots back in the familiar confines of the Walker Convocation Center.
Senior
Shealyn Shafer led the way with 28 points and 15 rebounds. She received plenty of help from
Sydney Bates, 24 points, Shea Hines, 22 points and six assists, and
Jordan Miller with 15 points and five assists.
After taking a 54-38 lead at halftime WVSU built that into a 17 point advantage in the third period before a short lived Mountain Lion rally cut the margin to seven with 2:53 left to play.
After a Yellow Jacket timeout Shea Hines drove for a layup to make the lead 99-90 and the Jackets converted eight straight free throws to close out the game.
WVSU now takes to the road until returning home on February for a game against Glenville State. Â
