The sun came out Sunday and pitching dominated the day's softball action as the Yellow Jackets took a pair of games from visiting Notre Dame College by scores of 3-2 and 2-0.
Allyson Burgess tossed all seven innings in the opener scattering 10 hits, walking none, and striking out four.
WVSU capitalized on four hits and four Notre Dame errors in scoring twice in the second inning and once in the third.
Dee Dee Loftis and
Shandell Curtis each drove in a run for the Jackets.
The Falcons challenged in the top of the seventh when their leadoff batter singled and the next hitter belted a home run over the left field fence.
After the visitors next batter singled to put the tying run on base Burgess quelled the rally by retiring the next three Notre Dame batters.
The nightcap proved to be even more of a pitchers' duel as neither team was able to cross the plate until the sixth inning.
Loftis led off the frame with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Allyson Funk and moved to third on a groundout to second by
Zoey Carte.
Summer Sword then drew a walk and stole second.
Brookelyn Hale followed with a double to the gap in right-center to drive in both Loftis and Sword for the game's only runs.
Chelsey Parkins went the distance in the circle giving up just five hits while walking none and striking out two.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 22-18 overall and 7-11 in Mountain East Conference play.
