Box Score 2 The Yellow Jacket softball team split a doubleheader with visiting UVa-Wise Wednesday afternoon.
WVSU fell 8-5 in the opener as the Cavaliers used a pair of big innings to propel themselves to the win.
The Jackets rallied to score the game winner in the bottom of the seventh to capture the nightcap 1-0.
In game one the visitors picked up three runs in the third and five in the fifth.The Jackets countered with a lone run in the fourth as

Nichole Brown single.
Trailing 8-1 entering the bottom of the fifth the Yellow Jackets put together a four-run rally with
Brookelyn Hale and
Sydney Kaplan each driving in a pair of runs.
Calli Norton came on to hurl three scoreless innings of relief but WVSU could not muster any more runs over the last two innings.
Norton continued to throw  the ball well in game two as she started and went the distance in the circle allowing just three hits while walking none and striking out three.
Nichole Brown led off the seventh for WVSU with a single and Norton came in to pinch run for her. Norton advanced to third on a pair of groundballs and then scurried home on a single off the bat of catcher
Brittany Allison to account for the game's lone run.
