Football Faces Second Nationally Ranked Opponent in Three Weeks

Just a couple of weeks ago third-ranked Shepherd visited Institute.

Now #18 UNC Pembroke comes to town with a 7-1 record to take on the Yellow Jackets at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The meeting is a rematch of last season's game at Pembroke won 45-21 by the Braves.

WVSU will face many of the same problems as last year as Pembroke returns a large number of starters on both sides of the ball.

Those include a large offensive line, junior quarterback Patrick O'Brien, and a balanced attack.

O'Brien was 20-25 for 318 yards and four touchdowns against the Jackets last season. This season he has completed 178 of 274 attempts for 2,107 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing eight interceptions.

The Braves average 253.4 yards through the air and 164.9 on the ground.

WVSU will be looking for a big day from junior quarterback Matt Kinnick who threw for 312 yards and two scores in last season's meeting. DIonta Brown ran for 61 yards in that game an dshould see plenty of action Saturday.
