The Yellow Jacket softball team will face Wheeling Jesuit at noon at the Moyers Spors Complex in Salem, Virginia in a first round Mountain East Conference tournament contest.
WVSU finished fifth in the final regular season standings after posting a 14-12 MEC record and 26-16 overall mark. The Cardinals come into the event as the fourth seed with a record of 16-8 and 20-18.
The squads split a doubleheader in Institute back on March 28.
Sydney Kaplan (.379 BA), Alana Wyant (.355),
Kelsey Martin (.336), and
Sabrina Schouten (.331) lead Yellow Jacket hitters. Weyant has a team leading 11 home runs on the season and set a new program career record. Schouten has stolen 19 bases in 20 attempts and holds the program record for career stolen bases. Micca Marabe and
Hannah Griffith also keep catchers on their toes with 15 steals each.
The young WVSU pitching staff ranks fourth in the conference in earned run average and is led by freshman
Chelsey Parkins who has posted a 13-6 record and 1.56 ERA. Freshmen
Allyson Burgess and Callie Norton along with sophomore
Ali Haynes complete the staff.
