Box Score After playing to a 10-10 tie after one quarter Sunday the WVSU women's basketball team steadily pulled away from visiting Winston-Salem State to take a 63-50 win in the Yellow Jackets' final home contest of 2015.
Freshman
Laura Szorenyi led the way with 20 points, 14 before halftime, as WVSU (4-5) pulled out to a 28-20 lead by halftime and 43-28 after three periods.
The Rams (4-5) showed a little life in the final period pulling to within in nine points before the Jackets finally put them away.
Shealynn Shafer contributed a game high 17 rebounds, just one short of her career best.
Shae Hines and
Deyahnna Styles each added 10 points for WVSU.
The next games for the Yellow Jacket women are an exhibition contest December 29 at St. Francis. Pa. and a game at Bluefield State at 2:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
