Box Score The WVSU women's basketbal team fell behind 16-6 in the early going Saturday afternoon at the Walker Convocation Center the rallied to take a 28-24 lead into halftime.
The Yellow Jackets managed to stay barely ahead of visiting Concord through most of the third quarter with
Shealyn Shafer's layup with 1:43 remaining giving WVSU a 44-42 advantage.
It would prove to be the Jackets' final lead as the Mountain Lions scored seven of the next eight points to take a 49-44 lead into the final period.
The lead reached as many as 12 with 2:06 to play but the Yellow JAckets fought back again before finally falling 66-60.
Shae Hines paced WVSU with 17 points while
Deyahnna Styles added 16 and
Laura Szorenyi 10.
Shafer and Szorenyi each pulled down six rebounds to lead a balanced effort on the boards that left the Yellow Jackets with a 39-34 rebounding edge.
The women's next contest is Monday at 5:30 p.m. when they host UVa-Wise.
