The WVSU softball team takes on Shepherd at 2:30 p.m. today in the opening round of the Mountain East Conference tournament being held in Salem, Virginia, with the winning taking the field again at 7:30 p.m. to face second-seeded Virginia-Wise.
    The defending champion Yellow Jackets (25-25) enter the event as the seventh seed.
