Bostic Leaves to Accept Athletic Director Position

West Virginia State University Head Women's Basketball Coach Renee Bostic has accepted the position of Athletic Director at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York. She will leave WVSU July 31.

Bostic took over the WVSU program prior to the 2008-09 season and immediately instilled an attitude of hard work and defensive tenacity into the program. Her first two teams posted records of 15-14 and 16-11, marking the first time in 26 years the Yellow Jackets posted back-to-back winning seasons.

After suffering through two injury-marred seasons, Bostic finishes her four-year tenure with an overall record of 53-59 and a conference mark of 41-45.

She came to WVSU from Robert Morris College in Chicago where she led the women's basketball program to its first NAIA national tournament appearance in her third season, after taking over a team that had a 2-20 record the year before she arrived.

Prior to that Bostic was head coach at Hostos Community College in New York for three years.

She is an active member of the Women's Basketball Coaching Association and the Black Coaches and Administrators Association.

“Coach Bostic always expressed a desire to move into administration,” WVSU Athletic Director Sean Loyd said. “She received an opportunity she felt she could not turn down and we wish her well.”

Medgar Evers College sponsors an NCAA Division III athletic program that includes 14 sports and belongs to both the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
