After two years of bringing in large recruiting classes and fielding young squads WVSU Head Football Coach Earl Monroe and his staff were looking to fill some specific needs with this group of signees.
The prize catch so far is Maryland All-State quarterback D'Von Dorsey.
The 6-3, 215 pound, Dorsey threw for 1,716 yards and ran for 510 as a senior at Friendly High.
Here is a quick look at the players who signed Wednesday -- (Coach Monroe expects to receive 6-10 more signed National Letters of Intent in the 48 hours after the signing period began.)
D'Von Dorsey, quarterback, 6-3, 215, Ft. Washington, MD, Friendly HS – ESPN High School named Dorsey the Maryland All-State first team quarterback after he threw for 1,716 yards and ran for 510 in 10 games as a senior.
Also picked up more than 2,000 total yards as a junior and was offered a scholarship by Temple and was also recruited by Connecticut and Rutgers.
What Head Coach Earl Monroe has to say about D'Von –
“We had five quarterbacks on the board and he was the one we decided to go after.”
“We like his arm strength, accuracy, and the way he ran his offense.”
“Once he got here we liked the way he carried himself. We could see him being somebody who could run our team.”
“Our big goals were to sign a quarterback and a kicker and we were hoping to get them both on the first day but we are still waiting on the kicker.”
“He will come in and not have to be thrown into the fire right away but can learn from Ricky.”
NOTE: Ricky Phillips returns for his senior season as the Yellow Jackets quarterback this year.
