The Yellow Jackets looked to have a win within reach as they lined up for a 20 yard field goal attempt trailing 21-20 with 5:41 to play in the game.

But West Liberty blocked the kick and the Hilltoppers' Carl Hayless ran it back 92 yards to give the hosts a 28-20 lead that stood up.

 West Liberty led 7-0 after one period but WVSU answered in the form of Ricky Phillips' touchdown passes to Robert Jackson and Landon Johnson to move ahead 13-7. The Hilltoppers took a 14-13 lead on a 44-yard pass play at the end of first half.

Phillips then hit Ervin Kent on a 30-yard scoring strike in the third period to put the Jackets back in front 20-14.

The Hilltoppers scored on a 4 yard run with 13:37 to play after an 11 play drive to retake the lead 21-20.
