Hayley Bassett joined the West Virginia State University sports medicine staff as Assistant Director of Sports Medicine in 2025. She brings extensive clinical experience across NCAA Division I, II, and III settings, with a diverse background in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and emergency response.
Bassett most recently earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Iowa, where she worked with a range of collegiate and high school athletic programs, including immersive clinical rotations with Iowa Football, Iowa Women’s Tennis, Syracuse Football, and Coe College. Her training also included time at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and specialized experience in neurological rehabilitation with Dr. Fitzgerald and Associates in Cedar Rapids.
A native of Albia, Iowa, Bassett completed her undergraduate work at the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Sport Studies. She holds certifications as a BOC-certified athletic trainer, emergency medical technician, and in basic life support. Bassett is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association (District 5), and the Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society.
