Ricky Spear brings a strong background in high-level volleyball and program leadership. A passionate coach with multiple championships across state lines, he has consistently guided teams to success, including three Virginia High School League Class 4 state championships and a West Virginia Class AAAA state runner-up finish.
In addition to his achievements at the high school level, Spear served as a student assistant for the West Virginia University volleyball program. In this role, he played a vital part in team operations, statistics, logistics and coaching staff support at the NCAA Division I level.
Spear has been recognized nationally for his contributions to the sport. He is a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association 30 Under 30 Award, which honors rising coaching talent across all levels of volleyball. In club competition, he was named League One Volleyball Coach of the Month for February 2026.
In his latest club season, he coached at 3DGE during its inaugural year, guiding his 15-and-under team to a 45-25 record (.643). The squad qualified for the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship, making it the only 15s team from Pittsburgh to qualify for the tournament.
