WVSU Athletics announced Avery Moore as the new head volleyball coach at West Virginia State on Monday. Moore most recently served as the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach at the University of Charleston.
"We are thrilled to welcome Avery Moore to West Virginia State University," stated Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Nate Burton. "From our first conversation with Avery, we knew that she'd fit well within our culture.
"Her passion and energy for the game was evident, and we knew our student-athletes would appreciate the kind of leader that she is. I am confident that Avery will continue to build on the great success of our women's volleyball program."Â
"I am extremely grateful to Vice President Nate Burton for giving me the opportunity to lead the WVSU volleyball program," remarked Moore. "I'm looking forward to building relationships with our current student-athletes and continuing to compete for championships in the Mountain East Conference. I can't wait to step into the winning culture at State and further our success next season."
Moore was named the assistant coach at Charleston in the spring of 2023. She was an integral part of the coaching staff that led the Golden Eagles to a 24-10 overall record and a second-place finish in the MEC South Division. She ran the strength and conditioning program for the team and helped five of her players to All-MEC honors.
While at UC, Moore also served as the Associate Head Coach for Vantage Volleyball Club's U18 team. Prior to moving to Charleston, she was a volunteer volleyball coach at Palo-Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas. She also held various coaching positions at JET Volleyball Club while living in Texas.
Moore played at Division II Lubbock Christian University from 2017 until 2021. She was her team's captain in her junior and senior seasons. She garnered three first team all-conference selections and won a conference championship with the Chaps.
Moore earned her bachelor's degree in Organizational Communication from Lubbock Christian in 2021. She made the Dean's List her first three years and the President's List her senior year. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston.Â
