Mason Samlow entered his first year as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at West Virginia State University in the summer of 2024. Samlow brought seven years of coaching experience to WVSU, including stints at the Division I, Division II and NAIA levels.Â
Samlow most recently served as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at the University of Charleston. He joined the Golden Eagles staff ahead of the 2023-24 season and helped them achieve a 19-11 overall record as well as a semifinal berth at the MEC Tournament. He played an integral role in developing All-MEC honorees Clarissa Francis, Taylor Austin and Nia Vanzant.
Prior to joining the UC staff, Samlow spent one season each as the Assistant Coach at Georgetown College, Davis & Elkins and Shawnee State. His teams at Georgetown and Shawnee State both posted winning records and received bids to the NAIA National Championship. Between the two programs, he aided six student-athletes in being recognized as all-conference selections. While at D&E, the Senators improved their overall record by six wins from the previous season and placed then-freshman Dream Cherry on the All-MEC Second Team.
Samlow entered the collegiate ranks as an Assistant Video Coordinator for the Houston Cougars women's basketball team. He coordinated recruiting, gameday, practice and highlight film for the Division I program over a two-year period. He graduated from UH with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration.
Samlow is an active coach with the Ohio Future AAU basketball program. He enjoys helping youth realize their dream of playing at the next level. He is a product of Teays Valley High School (Ashville, Ohio) where he first became interested in coaching while acting as a basketball scout.
