Marcus Reed enters his fifth year as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at West Virginia State University in 2023-24.
He interned with the Marshall University men's basketball program prior to joining the Yellow Jackets.
Reed attended Riverside High School in Belle, W.Va. where he became the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,301 points. He was selected All-State Honorable Mention twice during his junior and senior years. In his senior year of high school, Reed was also named First Team All-MSAC.
Furthermore, Reed starred as a wide receiver on the Riverside Warriors football team. He ranked third in the Mountain State Athletic Conference in receiving with 45 catches for 880 yards and eight touchdowns during his senior year and garnered Second Team All-MSAC honors in the process. His overall athleticism earned him an offer from Glenville State College where he signed to play football at the NCAA Division II level.
After one year at Glenville State, Reed decided to shift his focus towards academics and transferred to Marshall to study Sport Management. He famously competed in a one-on-one game against former Duke standout and NBA journeyman Chris Duhon at 'Rock the Rec' after being chosen by his peers as the best basketball player among them. Reed's performance did not go unnoticed as he later walked on to the Thundering Herd men's basketball team.
Reed graduated from Marshall with a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management in May of 2017 with a 3.3 grade point average. He continued his studies at Marshall post-graduation, earning a Master of Science in Sports Administration by May of 2019 with a 3.91 GPA.
Reed currently resides in Charleston with his wife Maria.
