Kenan Johnson enters his second year on the West Virginia State University football coaching staff in 2021.
Johnson graduated from West Virginia State in the fall of 2019. He was a defensive lineman for the Yellow Jackets that played all four years and racked up over 100 tackles in his career.
Johnson was present within the program when John Pennington took over the WVSU football program in the winter of 2017. From there, Johnson was part of the complete culture turnaround that has led to three straight winning seasons for the football program.
Johnson was a three-year starter on the WVSU defense. He earned All-Conference honors and was part of a tremendous turnaround for the WVSU defense that helped the Yellow Jackets earn a shot at the Mountain East Conference Championship.
Johnson graduated with a 3.87 GPA, earning a bachelor’s degree in Communications. He was voted as “The Ideal Yellow Jacket” and “The Unsung Hero” of the WVSU football program in his senior year.
