Jay Terry enters his third season on the coaching staff at West Virginia State University in 2019. He currently serves as the Defensive Line Coach and Digital Media Coordinator.

Terry joined West Virginia State in 2017 as an Assistant Offensive Line Coach. He was made a head position coach the following year, appointed as the Head Tight Ends Coach for the 2018 season. The 2019 season saw Terry named Defensive Line Coach for the Yellow Jackets. He has swiftly ascended in the ranks of the football program at WVSU due to his strong work ethic and extensive experience as a player.

Originally from Bainbridge Island, Wash., Terry was a three-sport athlete in high school that especially excelled on the football field. He was selected First Team All-Conference twice during his high school football career.

After high school, Terry attended Santa Barbara City College (Calif.) where he starred as a starting defensive end on the football team from 2013 until 2015. While at SBCC, he was named First Team All-Conference and had a standout performance in the Golden West Bowl which earned him Defensive Player of the Game honors.

Terry transferred to West Virginia State in 2015 and played there through 2017. Once again, he garnered First Team All-Conference honors for his outstanding play at the defensive end position. His relentless effort on the field resulted in him being named Lineman of the Year by the Mountain East Conference. To cap off his remarkable collegiate career, Terry played on the winning side of the HBCU Spirit of America Bowl in which he racked up six tackles and a sack.

Terry received his undergraduate degree from West Virginia State University in 2017 and is currently enrolled in graduate studies at WVSU.
