Nathan Gainer

Coach Gainer comes to WVSU with plenty of baseball experience. After serving as the pitching coach for the Elkins Post 29 American Legion baseball for a year he took over as head coach two years ago.

He proceeded to lead the team to records of 38-10 and 37-12 on the way to back-to-back state runner-up finishes.

An Elkins native, gainer attended Elkins High where he lettered in three sports and was instrumental in leading Elkins to its first regional final appearence in over four years.

He was a first team All-North Central Athletic Conference and honorable mention All-State as a senior. Along the way he also played three summers for Post 29.

Gainer went on to play for West Virginia Wesleyan where he began his college career as a utility player. After switching to relief pitching he tossed 15 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing a hit. He finished his collegiate career with 8 wins and 2 losses with 34 strikeouts and a 3.58 earned run average.
