Four Yellow Jackets earn All-MEC tennis honors

INSTITUTE – The Mountain East Conference announced their All-Conference teams for men's and women's tennis Friday afternoon. Forkane Lebdi earned First Team All-MEC honors, while Niclas Naedele was named Second Team. On the women's side, Amanda Menendez Thomasson was named First Team, and Maria Mercedes Kaltakian earned Second Team honors. 

Lebdi, a junior from Algeria, finished the regular season 11-7 in singles play, and 8-10 in doubles action. He finished the regular season winning three of his final four matches, including a 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 senior day victory over Charleston. In doubles play, Lebdi had a three-match win streak teaming up with Wacil El Hanafi. Lebdi also was named Male Athlete of the Year at the recent Stinger Awards. This is his second time earning All-MEC honors. 

Naedele, a junior from Munich Germany, went 9-9 in singles play this season, including a 7-2 record playing at no. 2 singles. He closed the season winning four of his final six matches, including a singles win on senior day against Charleston. 

Menendez Thomasson, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden, went 9-10 in singles play, finishing the season going 8-2 in her final 10 matches. Playing primarily at no. 2 singles, she had an 8-5 record, including winning four of her final five matches of the season. This is her fourth time earning All-MEC honors. 

Kaltakian, a freshman from Argentina, was 8-10 overall in singles play, primarily playing at the no. 1 singles slot. She won five of her first six matches at no. 1 singles, including a 7-6 (7-5), 6-7, (2-7), 10-8 win over West LIberty and a win in the season finale, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 over West Virginia Wesleyan.
