Usurpation on Display as the Yellow Jackets Sweep the Yellow Jackets 5-3, 3-2

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State picked up a doubleheader sweep on the road Wednesday, defeating Cedarville 5-3 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2 behind timely hitting and strong pitching performances.

In the opener, the Yellow Jackets used a balanced offensive effort and a standout performance from Olivia Bell to secure a 5-3 victory. Bell powered the offense with a two-run home run and finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Baylee Smith added two hits and an RBI. WVSU built an early lead and regained control in the sixth inning, plating two runs to break a 3-3 tie. In the circle, Adrianna Green tossed a complete game, allowing just three hits and no earned runs while striking out five to earn the win.

In Game 2, West Virginia State completed the sweep with a 3-2 win in a tightly contested matchup. The Yellow Jackets broke through late, scoring once in the fifth and twice in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI double from Autumn Hall. Hall also delivered in the circle, pitching a complete game and allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Sydney Shamblin contributed an RBI, and the WVSU defense held off Cedarville's late push to secure the victory and cap the sweep.

WVSU Softball will be on the road this weekend for two Mountain East Conference doubleheaders; traveling to WV Wesleyan Saturday, April 11, and Davis & Elkins Sunday, April 12.
