Kelsic wins 100 meter title to lead WVSU at MEC Outdoor Track and Field championships

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Malik Kelsic of the West Virginia State men's track and field team won the 2026 Mountain East Conference Outdoor Track and Field championships in the 100 meters Tuesday afternoon, capping off an event where the Yellow Jackets finished eighth in the team standings. 

Kelsic finished the 100 meter finals in a personal-best time of 10.79 seconds, narrowly edging out the second-place finisher. Torrance Anthony finished fourth, with Luis Castriota bringing home a fifth-place finish. Kelsic also finished fifth in the 200 meters, qualifying for the finals with a prelim time of 21.56 seconds before finishing the finals in another personal best of 21.93 seconds. Leotis McNeil III was second in the triple jump, marking 14.50 meters in the finals.

Anthony had a third-place finish in the long jump, marking 6.81 meters in the finals. In the high jump, McNeil and Curtis McCray tied for sixth-place with identical marks of 1.85 meters. Alex Amartey was sixth in the shot put, marking 14.14 meters. 

The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Day'Vonne Singleton, Anthony, Castriota and Kelsic finished second, with a finals time of 41.28 seconds.
