WVSU Rallies Past Bluefield State in 15-13 Win

4/1/2026 10:41:00 PM

Bluefield, W.Va. -- West Virginia State delivered a strong showing at the plate Tuesday, using timely hitting and persistence to come away with a hard-fought road win over Bluefield State.

In the lone game of the day, WVSU rallied from an early five-run deficit and answered with a decisive seven-run second inning to seize control. Brodie Guenther's bases-clearing triple sparked the surge, while Ethyn Barnitz added a home run as part of a balanced offensive attack that produced 15 hits. Aidan Paulsen and Nate Bittinger contributed multiple hits, and the Yellow Jackets consistently pressured the defense with aggressive base running and disciplined at-bats. Despite a late push from Bluefield State that cut the lead to two in the ninth, WVSU held firm behind Bryce Eggleton's relief effort and Karson Frye's save to secure the 15-13 victory.

The win highlights West Virginia State's resilience and offensive depth, as the Yellow Jackets continue to build momentum with contributions throughout the lineup and the ability to respond in key moments.

Yellow Jackets return on the road Friday, April 3 to face West Virginia Wesleyan.
