FROSTBURG, Md. — West Virginia State used a dominant fourth-quarter surge to pull away from Frostburg State and secure a 65–52 Mountain East Conference victory Wednesday night inside Bobcat Arena.
The Yellow Jackets (8–12, 5–9 MEC) turned a tight, back-and-forth game into a decisive win by holding Frostburg State to just four points in the final 10 minutes. West Virginia State outscored the Bobcats 20–4 in the fourth quarter, limiting Frostburg State to 2-of-22 shooting over the final period while forcing six turnovers.
Baylee Goins led the way with a double-double, finishing with 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals, anchoring both ends of the floor during the decisive stretch.
Imani Hickman added 13 points and six rebounds, while
Ahjanae Young chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
West Virginia State shot 50 percent (7-of-14) in the fourth quarter and capitalized at the foul line, while its defense closed off driving lanes and contested nearly every look. The Yellow Jackets finished with a 24–18 advantage in points in the paint and forced 17 Frostburg State turnovers.
After Frostburg State (10–11, 6–8 MEC) built a 48–41 advantage late in the third quarter, West Virginia State answered with four straight points to close the period and cut the deficit to 48–45. The Yellow Jackets then extended the surge into the fourth, completing a 13–0 run with nine unanswered points to open the final quarter. A free throw by

Jessica Osuanah provided an interior spark with six points, while
Latisha Parris added seven points and five rebounds. West Virginia State also held a 9–7 edge in steals, turning defensive pressure into 18 fast-break points.
Julie Spinelli paced Frostburg State with 14 points, while Jenna Muha added 10 points and 16 rebounds. Despite winning the rebounding battle, the Bobcats struggled to generate offense late as West Virginia State controlled tempo and closed the game from the free-throw line.
State next hits the hardwood of the Walker Convocation Center on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2:00 p.m. against the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons.
