INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Yellow Jacket Men's and Women's Track & Field competed in the MEC Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday, with both sides finishing middle of the pack in team scores (Men's-6th, Women's-8th).

Curtis McCray and Luis Castriota were the two first-place finishers for WVSU on Sunday. Castriota winning the M200m (21.32) as well as placing 2nd with a PR in the M60m (6.73), while McCray was the only athlete able to clear 1.98m in the Men's High Jump. Leotis Mcneil III also gathered some team points in Men's Triple Jump (2nd-14.67m) and set a new PR in Men's High Jump (4th-14.67m). Lastly for the Men, the M4x400 Relay team of Day'Vonne Singleton, Malik Kelsic, Karl Chadband, and Emmanuel Ojo came in 4th with a time of 3:26.22.

The Women's weekend was highlighted by Temiloluwa Jaf-Ogunlayi placing 2nd in the W200m (25.25), 4th in the W60m (7.77), 7th in Women's Long Jump (5.32m), and was part of the 3rd place W4x400 Relay. Temi's efforts earned 16.5 points for WVSU, as well as MEC Freshman of the Year honors for herself! Jayla Woods ran a season best in the W400m (59.05), gathering a 3rd place finish. The last podium finish for the Yellow Jackets was the W4x400 Relay (3rd-4.01.61) ran by Amia DenMark, Temiloluwa Jaf-Ogunlayi, Danielle Perez, and Jayla Woods. Akeelah Ling was the last of team scoring on the Women's side placing 6th in the W200m (25.81) and 8th in the W60m (7.91), both numbers being a season best. Danielle Perez was held just outside of individually claiming team points in the Women's High Jump, but still set a new PR placing 9th clearing 1.40m.

Luis Castriota's 6.73 in the 60m has him currently 17th nationally, awaiting other conference championships and NCAA selection on Tuesday March 3rd. Otherwise, the Yellow Jackets take a month off before starting outdoor season at Eastern Kentucky University for the EKU Spring Invitaitonal on March 20.
