Box Score INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State left Pittsburgh with a victory over the Pioneers of Point Park Wednesday night.
The Yellow Jackets shot 50% from the field (33-66), including 13 three pointers and 12-17 from the free throw line. They also added 43 rebounds, 14 assists, eight steals, and one block. The Yellow
Jackets scored 32 points in the paint, 9 on fast break, and 14 on second chance opportunities in the road win.
WVSU's offense was led by
Jaylen Subject and
Trey Harris. Subject was the game's leading scorer with 36 points (11-19 FG, 4-9 3PT). He also grabbed 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 steal.
Trey Harris was equally effective, scoring 29 points (12-18 FG, 3-4 3PT) and adding 5 rebounds.
Andrew Shull finished the game with 12 points (4 made 3PT) off the bench, while
Bryson Smith contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds.
Point Park benefited from an exceptional performance by Kaden Warner with 32 points (10-17 FG, 7 made 3PT) and 12 rebounds. Greg Williams scored 11 points and Aidan Anderson 9, but it wasn't enough to match the Jackets' offense.The first half was close, but State finished the period strong to lead 36-24 at halftime. The Yellow Jackets then extended their lead in the second half, stifling the Pioneers' offense.
West Virginia State will look to maintain their momentum when they return home to face Salem University at 4:00 PM on Saturday February 14th.
