Yellow Jackets beat Pioneers, extend win streak to five

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Jazzlyn Cedillo and Rachel Okoro each scored second-half goals Sunday afternoon as the West Virginia State University women's soccer team extended its win streak to five matches with a 2-0 victory over Glenville State University. Celina Seggelmann logged two saves to record her second solo shutout of the season.

WVSU held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal over Glenville State. Okoro registered three shots on frame, while Cedillo, Leila Karam, Sara París Filter, and Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz each added a shot on goal.

The opening 45 minutes ended scoreless, with WVSU putting two shots on goal compared to one for the Pioneers, which was turned away by Seggelmann. The Yellow Jackets needed less than four minutes of second-half action to break through, as Michaela Sannoh set up Cedillo, who converted into the upper-left corner of the net to give WVSU a 1-0 lead. WVSU maintained its offensive momentum as Karam put a shot on goal in the 56th minute before Okoro missed wide on an attempt shortly after.

Following a WVSU free kick in the 81st minute, Cali Questel had a shot attempt blocked before Okoro gathered the rebound and scored into the low-center area of the net to double the advantage to 2-0. Okoro kept pressure on the Glenville State defense late, having a shot blocked in the 86th minute before putting the rebound on frame to force a save.

WVSU returns home Wednesday, Oct. 28, to host rival UC in its regular-season finale before advancing to the Mountain East Conference tournament. Tournament seedings and match information will be announced by the MEC office following Wednesday's conference slate.
