NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The West Virginia State University men's tennis team earned its first victory over Walsh University in program history, securing a 4-3 decision Friday afternoon. Although the Cavaliers won the doubles point, WVSU claimed four of the six singles matches to clinch the win.
The lone doubles victory for WVSU came at No. 3 doubles, where Patchara Suklian and Facundo Campana Urcia earned a 6-1 decision, but Walsh captured the remaining two flights to secure the doubles point. In singles action, Niclas Naedele posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, while Wacil El Hanafi rallied from a set down at No. 3 singles to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Campana Urcia added a victory at No. 4 singles, coming back for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 win, before Oscar Thomas sealed the overall match victory with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-sets win at No. 5 singles.
WVSU concludes its fall schedule Saturday, Oct. 3, traveling to face Ashland University. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
