WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — In a game originally scheduled for Dec. 15, West Virginia State fell 108–84 to West Liberty in Mountain East Conference action Monday night inside the ASRC.
West Virginia State Yellow Jackets stayed competitive through the opening half, scoring 42 points and trailing just 50–42 at the break. The Yellow Jackets found success inside, finishing with 48 points in the paint and generating 23 fast-break points, but turnovers proved costly as the game wore on.
Hassan Belkhaddar led West Virginia State with 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Camren Wilkes followed with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including three three-pointers.
Jaylen Subject added 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while
Blake Goodman chipped in 12 points off the bench.
West Liberty created separation after halftime, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 58–42 in the second half while knocking down 16 three-pointers for the game. The Hilltoppers also received 52 points from their bench.
The Yellow Jackets return to the Walker Convocation Center on Wednesday, Jan. 21, opening the second half of the Mountain East Conference schedule against Glenville State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
