BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – West Virginia State fell 4-0 at Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Huskies struck for two goals in the opening 45 minutes and added two more after halftime to secure the win.
Senior goalkeeper Poppy Bastock finished with five saves for the Yellow Jackets, stopping two shots in the first half and three more in the second. WVSU put together 16 total shots with nine on goal, while Bloomsburg tallied 17 shots with nine on target. Corners were even at five apiece. The Jackets were called for three offsides and committed 12 fouls, while the Huskies were flagged twice for offsides and 14 fouls.
For West Virginia State, goalkeeper Poppy Bastock anchored the defense with five saves across 90 minutes of action. On the attacking side, the Jackets produced 16 total shots with nine on goal. Sara París Fílter led the way with four attempts, including one on frame, while Laura Pouedras added three shots with two on target. Maika Nchana Choni recorded two shots, both on goal, and Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz chipped in two attempts. Additional efforts came from Aika Tobaru, Ece Lea Evin, Alexia Bru Garcia, Sharon Freire Omonigho, Alexa Arrigale, Sydney Donovan, Gabriella Savage, Haley Bull, Olivia Thompson, and Katherine Reynolds, several of whom put their opportunities on target but were denied.
Bloomsburg's scoring came on a pair of first-half goals in the 37th and 43rd minutes, followed by strikes in the 53rd and 89th minutes to close the match.
West Virginia State returns home for its next contest, hosting Glenville State on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
