WVSU has four-match winning streak snapped at Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. – West Virginia State had its four-match winning streak halted in a 2-0 loss at Concord on Saturday. WVSU drops to 4-3, 4-1 in the Mountain East. Concord goes to 3-2-2, 3-0-2 in the MEC.

The teams played to a scoreless first half before the Mountain Lions broke through with a pair of second-half goals to seal the match. The Yellow Jackets managed nine shots, including five on target, but were denied by Concord goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough, who finished with five saves.

WVSU goalkeeper Poppy Bastock ended the match saving 9 of 11 shots Concord put on target. Five separate Yellow Jackets each had one shot on target.

Despite the setback, WVSU remains atop the MEC South and will play Wheeling on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium. Kickoff for the cross-divisional matchup is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
