FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — West Virginia State quarterback Kaleb Jackson was recognized as the HBCU National Player of the Week by Box To Row after delivering his best performance yet in the Black and Gold.
Jackson, a 6-1 junior from Grovetown, Ga., completed 16 of 23 passes (69.6%) for 309 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another score in WVSU's 45-16 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. He added 24 rushing yards to finish with 333 yards of total offense. Jackson opened the game's scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run before finding the end zone through the air on strikes of 37, 16, and 65 yards.
The national honor is the first of Jackson's WVSU career, a milestone for the junior quarterback who started at Albany State, spent two seasons at Charleston Southern, and has emerged as a leader for the Yellow Jackets.
