CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia State's 2025 baseball season concluded with an 8-2 loss to Point Park on Friday in an elimination game at the Mountain East Conference Tournament held at GoMart Ballpark.
WVSU took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Kyle Waters led off with a single and advanced to third following a hit from Michael Bittinger and a fielder's choice. Brodie Guenther then drove Waters in with a single to right.
Point Park responded in the second inning with a four-run frame, capped by a grand slam from Jared Campbell. State threatened in the second, fourth, and fifth innings but stranded multiple runners each time. Point Park added solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings from Trevor Jones and Campbell to extend the lead to 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets plated their second run in the sixth. Aidan Paulsen doubled, Waters walked, and Bittinger delivered an RBI single to center to bring Paulsen across. State left the bases loaded in the inning and finished the game with 12 runners left on base. Guenther went 4-for-5 to lead WVSU, while Waters and Bittinger each had three hits and Aiden Paulsen contributed two doubles. Point Park added two more runs in the ninth on RBI hits by Jordon Campbell and Omar Morillo to close the scoring.
Ayden Hodges struck out 10 over eight innings but took the loss after allowing six earned runs. WVSU ends its season with a 27-23 overall record.
