INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State's baseball team went into Saturday's doubleheader riding a three-game winning streak and finished the day with that streak broken at four as WVSU walked-off game one against West Virginia Wesleyan 6-5, but then fell behind big early, attempted to rally but came up short in game two, 11-8.

Game 1: WVSU 6, West Virginia Wesleyan 5
West Virginia State scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off West Virginia Wesleyan, 6-5, in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Cal Bailey Field. The Yellow Jackets entered the final frame trailing by three runs after Wesleyan put up four in the top half of the sixth. Ethan Spolarich and Aidan Paulsen opened the inning with singles before Kyle Waters drove in a run with a single to left. Brodie Guenther followed with a two-run single up the middle to tie the game, and Tyler Overaitis ended it with a sacrifice fly to center.
Starter JT Fabian threw five innings and allowed one run on two hits. Tyrus Baumgardner and Hunter McSweeney combined to give up four runs in relief before Brandon Morrison held Wesleyan scoreless over the final two innings to earn the win.
Game 2: WVSU 8, West Virginia Wesleyan 11
West Virginia State dropped the second game of the doubleheader to West Virginia Wesleyan, 11-8, snapping a four-game winning streak. The Yellow Jackets gave up four runs in both the first and fourth innings, falling behind early. Kyle Waters hit two home runs and drove in five runs, including a three-run shot in the sixth inning that brought WVSU within striking distance. Nathan Paulsen added a solo homer in the seventh.
Starter Brian Lingenfelter was tagged with the loss, allowing eight earned runs in 3.2 innings. Riley Vadasz, Cam Reed, Caleb Nutter, and Brandon Morrison all appeared out of the bullpen. Despite late scoring efforts, State left five runners on base and could not overcome the early deficit.
