INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State split Monday's doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan, falling 2-1 in Game 1 before bouncing back with a 6-3 win in Game 2. The Yellow Jackets and Bobcats finish the season series tied 2-2.

West Virginia Wesleyan edged West Virginia State 2-1 in the opener of Monday's doubleheader at Cal Bailey Field. Kyle Waters with a double to right center, but were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Anthony Hernandez went the distance for the Bobcats, scattering six hits and walking three while striking out three.
Ayden Hodges also pitched a complete game for WVSU, allowing three hits and one earned run with four walks and six strikeouts. Josh Ayala had a double in the seventh to set up the winning run. Waters reached base three times for State, while

Game 2: WVSU 6, WVWC 3
West Virginia State responded in the second game with a 6-3 win to split the doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets scored in four of the first five innings and used an 11-hit effort to take control.
Kyle Waters and
Nathan Paulsen each had two hits and scored twice.
Ethan Spolarich added a pair of hits and drove in a run, while
Michael Bittinger, Paulsen, and
Tyler Overaitis each recorded an RBI.
Zane Loveday started for State and worked three innings, allowing three earned runs.
Riley Vadasz and Jared Nethercut combined for four shutout innings in relief, with Nethercut earning the win. Kohei Fujishita homered for Wesleyan in the fourth to cut the deficit, and Alex Smith drove in a run. WVSU turned two double plays and limited the Bobcats to just one baserunner over the final two innings.
