WVSU Drops Three of Four at Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State dropped a four-game road series to Glenville State, falling in three of the four contests over the weekend at the Sue Morris Sports Complex. The Yellow Jackets salvaged one win with a 12-run outburst in Saturday's second game but were unable to overcome early deficits in the other matchups.

Post Series Records
WVSU: 15-19, 7-11 MEC
Glenville State: 17-19, 6-12 MEC

Game One: Glenville State 5, WVSU 3

Glenville State capitalized on early miscues by West Virginia State to secure a 5-3 win. The Pioneers scored two unearned runs in the first and added a three-run homer from Luke Sweigart in the second to jump ahead 5-0. State answered with one run in the third on an RBI sacrifice fly by Nate Paulsen and added two more in the fifth on a two-run single from Connor Fizer, but left the tying runs on base. WVSU managed just five hits but drew eight walks in the loss. Starting pitcher JT Fabian allowed five runs, only three earned, across four innings.

Game Two: WVSU 12, Glenville State 6

In the second game Saturday, West Virginia State responded with a 12-6 win behind a fast start and strong offensive showing. The Yellow Jackets scored seven runs in the first two innings, including a bases-clearing double from Charlie McGuiness and a two-run triple by Nate Paulsen. McGuiness added another RBI in the fourth and finished with four on the day. WVSU drew 12 walks and had 10 hits in the game. Starter Brian Lingenfelter picked up the win, allowing four runs in 4.1 innings. Glenville's Carlos DeJesus homered twice and drove in four of the six runs for the Pioneers.

Game Three: Glenville State 4, WVSU 3

Sunday's opener saw Glenville State hold off a late WVSU rally for a 4-3 victory. State trailed 4-1 heading into the seventh, but Nate Paulsen ripped a two-out, two-run double to cut the deficit to one. However, the Yellow Jackets stranded the tying run at third. Paulsen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Tyler Overaitis also collected two hits. Starter Ayden Hodges took the loss, allowing three earned runs over five innings. Glenville's Austin Carter and Adam Bright each drove in runs, and Trent Taylor earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

Game Four: Glenville State 10, WVSU 3

In the series finale, Glenville State put up nine runs in the first three innings and never looked back, claiming a 10-3 win. The Pioneers capitalized on 10 walks and added home runs from Sweigart and Quinn Lenamom. West Virginia State got on the board in the fourth and fifth innings, with Fizer and Brodie Guenther each recording RBIs. State was held to five hits and committed one error.
