Timely Hitting Pushes Yellow Jackets Past Pioneers To Tie Series At 2-2

Institute, W. Va. -- West Virginia State won both games against Malone on Feb. 24 at Shawnee Sports Complex to tie the four‐game series at 2–2. In the first contest, neither team scored in the opening inning. In the second inning, West Virginia State drew first blood when Michael Bittinger singled, later being driven in by a Kyle Waters two-out hit. The third, fourth and fifth innings were scoreless. Malone fought back, tying the game in the sixth with a solo home run by Ryan. However, West Virgina State would rebuttal in the bottom of the sixth with a Bittinger RBI-double being the deciding run in a 2-1 Yellowjackets victory.

In the second game, West Virginia State jumped ahead in the first inning with the help of Nathan Paulsen's three-run home run. Malone responded in the second inning with two runs. The third through sixth innings remained without scoring. In the top of the seventh, Malone scored three runs to take a 5–3 lead, but West Virginia State answered in the bottom of the inning. After back-to-back doubles by Waters and Guenther, Tyler Overaitis delivered a two–run walk–off home run to center field that made the final score 6–5.

West Virginia State now heads to Wilson, North Carolina to battle with Clarion University in one nine-inning game.
