Parris Double-Double Not Enough as State Falls at Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — West Virginia State (1-2, 0-0 MEC) battled through a physical, defensive matchup on Wednesday night but couldn't overcome Thomas More's hot start, falling 71–48 at the Connor Convocation Center. The Saints (3-0, 0-0 GMAC) used a 26-point first quarter to build a lead they never relinquished, despite State's strong push coming out of halftime.

Thomas More shot 24-for-64 from the field and knocked down five three-pointers while controlling the glass with 41 total rebounds. The Saints also took advantage of 27 WVSU turnovers, converting several of them into transition points that kept State from finding rhythm offensively.

Latisha Parris led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season. Lillian Jackson added 10 points and seven boards, while Imani Hickman chipped in eight points, four rebounds and a block. Baylee Goins finished with six points, three rebounds and two assists, and Ahjanae Young contributed five points, five rebounds and three steals.

Thomas More was paced by Rylee Leonard's game-high 15 points, including three triples on 6-of-10 shooting. Izzy Rotert added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Desiree Tandy posted seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Rylee Turner (7 points, 6 rebounds) and Morgan Hunt (9 points) rounded out the Saints' balanced scoring effort.

WVSU's best stretch came in the third quarter, where the Jackets put up 20 points and briefly cut into the deficit behind increased defensive pressure. But the Saints responded each time State threatened, using timely baskets late in the shot clock to maintain control.

West Virginia State finished 18-of-65 from the floor and 10-of-17 at the line while pulling down 44 rebounds.
