Stunning Shot Disparity, Unfortunate Result: State Falls 1–0

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State generated chance after chance but couldn't break through in a 1–0 loss to the University of Charleston on Wednesday night at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium. The setback sends the Yellow Jackets into a waiting game as they look to the NCAA Selection Committee to determine whether their résumé will earn a spot in next week's Atlantic Region Tournament.

State outshot Charleston 23–2 and held a 9–2 edge in shots on goal, but the Golden Eagles made their one opportunity count in the second half. WVSU pressed relentlessly late, forcing saves and near misses, yet couldn't find the equalizer.

Laura Pouedras led the Yellow Jackets with nine shots and five on goal, while Sara París Fílter added four shots and one on target. Sharon Freire Omonigho contributed three shots with one on frame, and Aika Tobaru recorded two shots and a shot on goal. Maria Alejandra Hernández Diaz also generated two attempts, while Rachel Okoro, Ellise Rennie, and Madison Rose Fortin each added a shot to round out State's 23-shot performance.

The Yellow Jackets (15-4-1) will now await the NCAA Division II Selection Show on Monday evening to learn whether their season will continue into regional postseason play.
