GLENVILLE, W.Va. — West Virginia State swept Glenville State in straight sets Tuesday night at the Waco Center, picking up a 3-0 Mountain East Conference victory (26-24, 25-16, 25-19). The win improved the Yellow Jackets to 7-8 overall and 2-2 in MEC play, while the Pioneers dropped to 8-10 and 1-3 in the league.
Alyssa Hill led the way for WVSU with 15 kills on a .458 hitting percentage, while
Nicole Gartner Custodio added nine kills and two blocks. Setter
Kelsey Mckeehan directed the offense with 36 assists and contributed five digs. Carmen Pérez chipped in nine kills and 13 digs, and
Layane Lima added six kills with a pair of block assists. The Yellow Jackets hit .235 as a team, holding Glenville State to just .075. Deniz Selen-Yazar paced the Pioneers with four kills and two aces, while Rita Kelly and Cali Queen each recorded four kills in the loss.
West Virginia State will return to action Friday, Oct. 10, when the Yellow Jackets host West Virginia Wesleyan for their Dig Pink Niight. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute.
