PENSACOLA, Fla. — West Virginia State University fell on the road to No. 3 West Florida, 55–6, on Saturday afternoon.
It was a hard-fought game, but the Yellow Jackets ultimately came up short against the undefeated Argonauts (8-0, 1-0 Gulf South Conference).
The Yellow Jackets (4-4, 3-2 Mountain East Conference) ran 48 plays for 132 total yards, averaging 2.75 yards per play. Quarterback
Kaleb Jackson led the offense with 68 passing yards, while
Jojo Restall paced the ground game with 34 rushing yards.
Marshall Humphrey accounted for WVSU's lone touchdown.
Defensively,
Daryl Fletcher led the way with eight tackles. Mike Wilson followed with seven,
Demarcus Daniels added six, and Marshawn Menkins contributed five.
West Florida executed 79 plays for 478 total yards, averaging 6.05 yards per play. Quarterback Marcus Stokes threw for 234 yards, and TJ Lane led the rushing attack with 67 yards.
West Virginia State will return home on
Nov. 1 to face Glenville State University at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
