ELKINS, W.Va. – West Virginia State's softball team took game one from the Davis & Elkins Senators, 4-1, and dropped game two in six innings, 11-3.
Emele Clark made history in the series, tying the school single season stolen base record in game one, then broke it in game two. She is 29-for-30 this season swiping bases. The only time this season she has been caught stealing was in the first leg of a doubleheader against Cedarville on March 13, 2024.

Game one: WVSU 4, D&E 1
WVSU launched the opening salvo against the Senators with Autumn Thompson collecting RBI's 12, 13, and 14 with a first inning, two-run jack that scored Emele Clark who had just tied the stolen base record. Thompson brought another run home in the top of the third with a double to left field. She scored her sister Chelsea Thompson who got on board via an error on the second baseman.
The younger Thompson picked up her third RBI of the season with a single to left field that scored Kerigan Moore. Moore reached earlier on an error by the third baseman, 4-0.
D&E hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the seventh, picking up just their second hit of the game. Three groundouts later, State secured game one.
The Yellow Jackets didn't commit an error in the game, while the Senators committed two.
Game two: WVSU 3, D&E 11 (6 innings)
The Senators took all of their offensive struggles in the first game and unloaded in the second game, knocking 16 hits, and they started off quick, getting four hits in the first inning, including an RBI single and an RBI double, 2-0. The Senators added to their lead in the second, knocking a two-run homer.
All three runs for WVSU came in the top of the third. Moore walked and Clark knocked an infield hit. Shortly thereafter, Clark stole second base to break the stolen base record. Chelsea Thompson hit a sac bunt that scored Moore, Autumn Thompson hit a left field single to score Clark and Cassidy Cummings reached on an error, scoring the elder Thompson, 4-3.
The Senators plated four more in the fifth and then consecutive home runs in the bottom of the sixth, a two-run shot and a pinch-hit solo homer, ended the game with an inning to spare.

WVSU will head to Buckhannon on Monday, April 8 for a night-time showdown against the Bobcats. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 6 but was rescheduled due to weather. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
