INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State made a little history Wednesday night as the first Acrobatics and Tumbling meet was held inside the Walker Convocation Center. West Virginia State ended up falling in the meet, 193.255-136.415 to Stevenson University.
WVSU falls to 1-4 while Stevenson advances to 1-3.
The Yellow Jackets dropped the first three heats in the Compulsory event but tied the last one. State trailed 24.4-21.2 after the first event. State dropped all three heats of the Acro event 22.25-17.90. The first two heats of the Pyramid event went to Stevenson, but the Open heat of the event was tied between the two schools. Stevenson had a start value in the heat of 10.0, but WVSU's was only 9.5, making the 8.95-all tie in the heat a little more impressive. State trailed at halftime, 71.70-61.45.
The Toss event was the closest of the six events with WVSU taking the first two heats by slim margins, 7.6-7.5 and 7.4-7.35. The Open heat was close as well, but Stevenson won it by two-tenths of a point, 7.65-7.45 and the event went to Stevenson 22.5-22.45.
The tumbling event went the way of the Mustangs taking the event 38.425-21.625. Elyssa Seabolt won the 6-Element Pass heat for State 8.025-6.5. WVSU continued to trail and in the end fell in the team event, 60.63-30.89.
