West Virginia State sweeps Glenville State in straight sets, extends winning streak to 7

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State University overpowered Glenville State University in a commanding three-set victory (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) at the Waco Center on Monday evening. From the start, WVSU demonstrated control over the pace of the game, opening the first set with a powerful offense that notched 18 kills and a .286 hitting percentage. The win elevated WVSU's record to 17-9 overall and 11-1 in the Mountain East Conference, strengthening their position near the top of the standings, while Glenville dropped to 3-22 overall and 1-11 in conference play.

Setter Kiersten Eggleton facilitated a well-distributed attack, totaling 31 assists on the night, while standout hitter Baby Moleni led the team with 11 kills, hitting an impressive .588. The Yellow Jackets' steady defense and precise serving further stymied Glenville's offense, allowing WVSU to close the first set 25-16.

In the second set, WVSU built on their early success, taking advantage of Glenville's repeated errors while maintaining their consistency in serves and spikes. With three service aces in the set and effective kills from Hannah Steele, who tallied 11 kills for the match, WVSU widened the point gap to secure a 25-14 win. The defense, anchored by libero Morgan Caba's 9 digs and Eggleton's 13, minimized Glenville's opportunities, limiting them to just 6 kills in the set and a flat .000 hitting percentage.

The third set saw WVSU maintain relentless pressure. With a match-high .333 hitting percentage and four service aces, the Yellow Jackets kept Glenville on the defensive. Glenville struggled with consistency, contributing 5 errors that allowed WVSU to capitalize and close the set 25-15. Moleni and Steele continued to shine at the net, while Caba's consistent serves kept Glenville out of system.

Overall, WVSU delivered a balanced and disciplined performance, finishing the match with 47 kills, 9 aces, and a .264 hitting percentage. Glenville's offense was held to just 15 total kills and a .012 hitting percentage, as they struggled to find rhythm against WVSU's sharp defense and powerful offense.

State returns home for their final two regular-season home matches of the season, starting with a date against Davis & Elkins on Friday, Nov. 8 at 2:00 p.m.
